Brazilian cheese rolls you'll find in the United States. |
Brazilian snack cheese rolls, lovin' it. Pao de Queijo, (Pown-deh-kay-zho) as Brazilians called these delicious salted cheese little balls. It's corn free, gluten free, wheat free, yeast free, all natural and vegetarian (not vegan).
The most common ingredients are: tapioca starch, parmesan cheese, whole eggs, whole milk, soybean oil and salt. I've found a few brands in the US grocery stores in the gluten free session. Those brands below are frozen and ready to bake.

You may like buying a powder to mix with whole eggs, and water (or milk) for rolling yourself before bake. In this case, it's possible to try a eggs free version if you are allergic to this ingredient. It won't give you exactly the same taste or appearance, but it's totally fine. I've done too.
Easy to find in Brazilian grocery stores. |
If I wasn't lazy I could cook from scratch just like my mom does. Her cheese rolls are the best in
the neighborhood. She does special version with less salt, more (or less)
cheese, or stuffed with more cheese before or after baked. So yummy... sorry I have to stop typing to bake some right
now.
Maybe redundant for some of you, but I'm from the best State in Brazil, the Cheese Roll State of Minas Gerais. =)
