Brazilians eat chicken heart, and they love it.

Curious and fun facts about Brazil

#11

Grisly food you find in every Brazilians barbecue.

It sounds wild and gruesome, but if you are from Brazil this is normal. By the way, it's an expensive dish, and a delicacy appreciated for everybody including kids.

Who once in life got invited to a barbecue in Brazil know what I'm talking about. People fight for them. Usually the man at the charcoal grill keeps it for later, or for his loved ones.

Why eat it? Organs got more attention after Paleo diet become popular. Heart is a good source of protein, but is higher in fat and cholesterol than light meat chicken. A 3.5 oz portion of simmered chicken hearts may contains 185 calories and 26 grams of pure proteins.

Not yet convinced? Heart is a good source of iron, zinc, selenium, and B vitamins, and really shines in CoQ10 content. This enzyme is vital for energy production and prevention of oxidative stress.

How prepare it? Just adding salt, and leave grilling for minutes. Need to cover the flavor?Fry them with onion and garlic, and season with salt and pepper. Yummy ways to use them.
