What's something Brazilians absolutely love, but they can't find in Brazil.
This was a fair question from a friend who was going to visit Brazil. " What they absolutely love?"
Here is my answer.
Chocolates! It’s hard to find a Brazilian who doesn’t have a sweet tooth, or doesn’t like chocolates. I recommend you buy any recognized brand of chocolate in its new flavor, or shape. You can buy the special edition of some brand they know, like a 4th the July, or Halloween edition Kit Kat bite size.
For example, last year I brought all types of the M&Ms bars for each one in my family to choose by color. They have M&Ms there, but not these! So it was a success.

How to avoid pests in your home
![]() |
Free photo 116611687 © Publicdomainphotos - Dreamstime.com
1. Spray spider webs and wasp nests around your home and remove when clear and safe.
2. Seal up any cracks, holes, or gaps around windows, doors, walls, or foundations.
3. Relocate trash outside as soon as possible.
4. For inside your home, use a garbage container with a lid to prevent pest and rodents from getting in the trash. Make sure take out the trash frequently and always keep the lid to outside receptacle closed.
5. Store dry goods like flour and sugar in airtight containers. For more frequently used items like cereal or pasta, store containers that are fully resealable.
6. Use insect and pest control products on your lawn and around the perimeter of your home.
7. Tip and turn over anything in your yard that can hold water to reduce mosquitoes. This includes toys, plants saucers and dog bowls.
8. Trim any tree branches or shrubbery growing close to your home and keep a 3- to 6- inches clearance. This reduce easy access for pest to enter your home.
9. Store fire wood in a dry and breezy area. Make sure your stack is at least 10 feet away from your home and elevated 6- plus inches off the ground.

Real Food Daily restaurant in California
Real Food Daily it's a charming restaurant in California. It was there I've also decided to try my new approach for eating safely.
After searching the menu without feeling confident about their mixing greens and vegetables, I asked them to make a salad with my choice of ingredients. They are the ones I know I can eat without reactions.
Here is the happy end of another story of eating out without allergic reactions.
Here is my list based on their menu.

Corn in a Publix walnut, how is it possible?
Clearwater beach at Tampa Bay.
Spring is around the corner and I've decided to go see Tampa bay before a longer trip to Florida. It was good, but my issues with food were there as well.
As always, I read the label before eating anything. Mainly in a trip. Even if I'm traveling for work. Why? I don't want to get any reaction that will make me miss a flight for example. Back to the point I was talking, a great light come to my mind about previous reactions eating nuts in many salads.
Why walnuts need corn oil? Freshness and allergy.
I'm pretty and dangerous.
Too bad for me!
But at least, now I know why I reacted.
It was all white on the eggs' shelves, wait, look again...

My gluten free experience during an international Delta flight
As usual I request the special meal during my flights. Some companies are good, other are better, Delta is very good. They have kids, low sodium, no sugar, kosher, and many different options, more than 10 total.
The cool thing about this special meal is that you will receive this meal before anybody else. Same as the kids, and I think this keep them distracted while the service is running. Talking about it, if you are mom, remember that all food from the US have black pepper. So, if your kids don't like pepper this is one more reason for requesting a special food.
Back to my gluten free dinner, this is a photo of the feast.
Salad, sauce, bread, water, fruits and the meal.
A close up to the meal, chicken with sauce on top, rice below everything, carrots, broccoli, and red pepper.
Just in case you haven't notice, those black tiny dots in the sauce are black pepper. The appearance was fine, the smell was nice, and the taste was good. Nothing like the food we cook at home, but it was good for a 9 hours economical flight to a foreign country. The bread below is a famous brand in the US, and many people eat that. I don't for other allergenic products they use.
Udi's, gluten free bread, wheat, dairy, soy and nut free.
I recommend you also bring some snacks, in case you don't like the option you get. And now let's go to the breakfast. Again mine was served first, with special tag where you can see my seat number (24B).
Juice, muffin and banana.
The spread had a little orange juice cup, a (most of the times safe) banana, and a double chocolate muffin. yumm, but again I don't eat that. So my option was to return or give to the kid besides me. Guess who was even happier with his chocolate muffin now?
If you are wondering if I have celiac disease, not that I'm aware of. But everything with gluten and its cousins made me think they don't like me anymore. Symptoms are sleepiness, brain fog, joint pain, stomach discomfort, bloating, etc. They don't happen right the way as the allergic reaction, it's more like a toxic reaction that accumulates over time of consumption.
This was my experience, now tell me what were yours?

Higher vitamin D, how to do it?
Not everyday is a good day with a disease like that, but I needed to share this little achievement.
My vitamin D levels were 73 even after a cold winter in the Carolinas.
The ingredients and recipe is below for you to try.
- Good quality of vitamin D3, around 5000 UI per night, sublingual.
- Magnesium oil, each night as they work together, and also helped with headaches.
- Olive oil, a lot, only good quality, each meal, don't be afraid to use it (go here to know how find about quality).
- Sun, each day (or almost), 15 to 20 minutes, on my legs, feet, arms, or where I could get some, no sunblock at all.
I'm also taking other supplements, and again, they are all good quality, but high price sometimes. Gluten free, corn free, lactose free, and sugar free too. Plus each meal was made with real food, organic fruits, dark green vegetables, grass fed meat, cage free eggs, and just enough water per day.
My calcium was also higher, after years of the range.
This is how the before and after looks like.
Vitamin D - before 29 - today 73
Calcium - before 8.2 - today 9.2
Yes you can!

Testing for your olive oil.
Easy. Leave for 2 or 3 day in the refrigerator and you'll see if it turns solid. If not, you have a scam in your hands.
I use this Kalamata because it has a similar flavor as I used to buy in Brazil.
In 3 days this olive oil was totally solid!
More great posts for you.

Oh boy... the gum from my childhood goes GMO.
Oh no...
This is what's happen when you try to find a thing from your childhood.
It's not what it used to be.
Sometimes this is good, but not always.
In this case, it isn't.
Mint gum, tiny box I used to chew years ago.
The yellow package is almost the same, but totally different design.
This is not the problem.
Youth images on the back of the box, contrasting colors, and a new font.
But NO, thanks.
It was made with GMO corn.
Even those dogs don't like it.
If you don't know what the T (inside a triangle) means, please read Brazil has labeled GMO and US doesn't...

GMO pets food in Brazil
GMO is a polemical subject in many countries, including Brazil. I told you about the GMO label in Brazil in this post Brazil has labeled GMO and US doesn't... Now I'll show you the same label in pets food.
A pet owner was showing this package because we were talking about how difficult is to find non-GMO pets food in her city. In fact there isn't! No option, period.
Similar problem they start having to buy oil for cooking. No more option. GMO only.
Our conclusion after talk about human and pets' food was: It's good to have a label, but is necessary having an option.
The package and the yellow T label (means GMO). If you don't know why is T, click here.
"Contém milho transgênico" means contain GMO corn.
The Brazilian Agricultural label of inspection for "good" food.
