Saying no to pesticides BUG helps Brazilian crops being organic. This company is one of the most innovative according Fast Company, 33th position globally. The relevance is because those two most important crops in Brazil, sugarcane and soybeans.

Trichogramma galloi

BUG sells basically insects and mites. Trichogramma, for example, provides half of the turnover of BUG by parasitizing eggs of the caterpillar in sugarcane crops.  Their 1st trial was in 2006 when a farmer asked for a sample to recover 200 bushels. It was so effective that he called high the way to ask for enough to help thousand more bushels.

How it works? BUG creates in their labs millions of eggs to pack and send to the buyer. The package is biodegradable and full of baby wasps. Each envelope must be left in a plant around 65 feet from other pack. Less than 5 days after many the distribution many wasps will fly to find caterpillar's eggs to eat.

Each little envelope has 2,000 eggs.

The company has already replaced pesticides in 35 thousands of bushels between all customers. For example, sugarcane in Maranhão, soybeans in the Midwest, strawberry in the Espirito Santo, flowers and peppers in Minas Gerais, melon in Rio Grande do Norte, and cotton, corn, and tomatoes.

If you think there is of an uncontrolled growth risk, don't worry. Wasps live only for 10 days, and they are natural predator of this caterpillar.

You must check the Future of Nutrition webinar, not just because you want to eat better, be vegan, be paleo, so and so. But because right now this food/nutrition subject it's sooo trendy as technology was years ago. Check their Facebook Fanpage

This is what I've learned so far.

"There is no ONE good diet for everybody in every place in the world.
We are unique and our diet must be specif for our body and demands."
Marc David

"If you are hit by a car, you'll need a traditional doctor,
but if you have a chronic disease the same doctor won't help you.
Because the traditional medicine doesn't know how treat you, or what causes the diseases. This is why they will calm down your symptoms with pills."
Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride

"Some people don't need more exercise, or more food.
They need more sleeping, and less food."
Matt Stone

"Eating organic is not just about nutrition. It's also about not poisoning the environment, it's about soil health, saving the bee population, and more.
Laura Klein

"If you tell me you want to climb the mountain Kilimanjaro. I'll need to look not just your nutritional status, but your nutritional status relatively to the demands and training for successively climbing Kilimanjaro."
Paul Chek

Why we say a big "YES" when a doctor give us a new powerful drug,
but we say "oh... ok... sure..." when the doctor say "let's change your diet"?

Forget Google glass, now they are working on contact lenses.

Scientists at the Google research facility in California are working on contact lenses containing tiny electronics that can constantly monitor glucose levels in the tears of people with high levels of glucose.

It may not help you much if you aren't diabetics, but is a great challenge for who does have this disease. Can you imagine have your glucose checked without the every day pain&blood process?

Of course, "It’s still early days for this technology, but we've completed multiple clinical research studies which are helping to refine our prototype," Google claimed. "We hope this could someday lead to a new way for people with diabetes to manage their disease."

A tiny wireless chip and miniaturized glucose sensor that are embedded between two layers of soft contact lens material. They may be able to insert a LED light to indicate that the level is close to the thresholds. Also can communicate with smartphones or tablets for helping you to talk with your doctor. Another big difference? It's something you can wear every single minute in your day without noticing.

Rock Candy, just a part of my childhood

This necklace made with sugar by Greetje Van Helmond
looks exactly to those Rock Candy we used to eat.

My parents used to visit my mom's old relative on every Sunday afternoon. We used to, literally, cross the city in a long trip to reach her house. My younger sister and I never complained about it, and in fact, we enjoyed a lot. We knew that travel had a stop. The pit stop was in the most rich candy store in our city. I don't remember a trip without a stop at that specific store.

The store called Kopenhagen started by a couple when they left Latvia to live in Brazil because WWI. Anna and David did handmade candy for selling on the streets. Changing their lives from medicine and piano to marzipan and chocolates the sells of the couple were growing fast. By year 1930, they opened a first store in Sao Paulo downtown.

In 1990 we were lucky to have a few Kopenhagen stores in our city too. The cookie smell, the European milk chocolate with almond, the sweet visual of each heart box and those candy were a dream for everybody. It wasn't different for us. Every stop my parents bought a gift to ant, a liquor chocolate box for them and candy for us.

Kopenhagen products in 1980.

My preference always was a Rock Candy, which always also intrigued me. How is possible to make a candy like a rock?  Nowadays on youtube you find how make it. Of course I'll try, it's corn-free, gluten-free, and full of memories.

Electric guitars, new technology and dating.

Aristides Guitar

A man who plays a musical instrument has more advantage with women. It's known they see this skill related with intellectual and genetic dominance. It seems cliche, it is cliche, but is also true.

Darwin has dedicated pages in his Evolutionary Theory to birds and human beings songs to attract a sexual partner. For him, this should be an adaptation's factor. Another recent study shows that women prefer if a man has a photo with an instrument on his profile. The difference is 28% "likes" if he has a guitar versus 10% without. It calls theory of sexual selection by music.

however, you shouldn't just fake up a photo on Photoshop with a pretty guitar. You don't need to be a guitar, or electric guitar. Any musical instrument will tell your loved one you is one step ahead.

So let's walk and shake!

Guitar made from only one piece of composite material called Arium.

Arium is made of many resins combined and micro particles of vibro-sensitive glass.

Aristide Poort is from Nederland who started in 1995 learning how the sound moves in a guitar wood's body to get the perfect acoustics. After his understanding it, he called for designers to help giving life to his idea. Many engineers said was impossible to build, but we've hear that all day long, right?

New model for 2014, Aristides fanpage.

You may be able to see quite few Brazilians in Aristides Guitar's portfolio.
